Throughout the school week, the social workers or psychologists facilitate group therapy.  At the primary and intermediate levels, group therapy is provided at the students’ developmental level and may include play therapy, therapeutic games and artwork as well as talking therapy.  At the junior high and high school levels, students experience group therapy in an intensive interactive format.  For high school students, group therapy is recognized as course work and credit can be awarded.  Group therapy is a required course for each student.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in specialized groups throughout the year.  Students may experience individual therapy when in crisis, when working with psychology externs, and/or when group therapy is not deemed appropriate.

In addition to group and individual therapy sessions, students participate in social skills group.  These groups convene weekly and are facilitated by our Master’s level classroom counselors or doctorate psychology externs.

Throughout the school year, MacNeal School’s Clinical Coordinator organizes and facilitates various support groups for parents and family members of students.  Services vary but are based on parent/family input and needs.
